PFT Calculator

Estimate a U.S. Marine Corps Physical Fitness Test score for pull-ups or push-ups, the forearm plank, and the 3-mile run. The calculator uses the published MCO 6100.13A CH-5 age/sex scoring standards and also identifies the separate 2026 combat-arms requirement announced in MARADMIN 613/25.

Unofficial estimator. This page is not affiliated with the U.S. Marine Corps and does not replace the official score recorded by your unit. It models the published pull-up/push-up, plank and standard 3-mile run scoring tables. It does not score the 5,000-meter row or altitude-adjusted run. Beginning January 1, 2026, Marines in listed combat-arms PMOSs are assessed using the male, age-normed standard regardless of sex and must reach 210 total points under MARADMIN 613/25; non-combat-arms Marines continue under the existing sex- and age-normed standards. Confirm official results and any special circumstances with your unit.

PFT Scoring Chart by Age Band

The figures below are the published minimum (40-point) and maximum (100-point, or 70-point for push-ups) anchors for each event, by age band and sex, from MCO 6100.13A CH-5 Tables 2-2 and 2-5.

Pull-up and push-up rep anchors by age band
Age bandM pull-up (min–max)F pull-up (min–max)M push-up (min–max)F push-up (min–max)

46–504–192–625–6811–40
51+3–182–420–6410–38

“Min” scores 40 points; “max” scores 100 points on pull-ups or 70 points on push-ups. Pull-up minimums for men are below the women’s minimums because men score against a higher-ceiling scale overall.

3-mile run: the 100-point time and the slowest passing (40-point) time

51+19:3033:0022:3036:00

A run time slower than the 40-point column fails that event. The forearm plank uses one table for every Marine regardless of age or sex: a 3:45 hold scores 100 points, 1:10 scores 40, and anything under 1:10 fails the event.

2026 combat-arms rule: MARADMIN 613/25 requires Marines in the listed combat-arms PMOSs to be scored with the male, age-normed standard and achieve at least 210 total points. A Marine can therefore have a generally passing PFT classification yet still be below the separate combat-arms 210-point requirement.

Choosing your upper-body event

Pull-ups or Push-ups: Which Scores Higher?

They’re two different scales, not one scale with two names. This is the single most common source of a miscalculated PFT score.

01

Pull-ups: up to 100 points

Pull-ups are the only route to a full 300-point PFT. A 25-year-old male scoring 100 points needs 23 dead-hang pull-ups.

02

Push-ups: capped at 70 points

Even a maxed-out push-up set tops out at 70 of the 100 available points, which caps the highest possible PFT total at 270 instead of 300.

03

Use the table for the event performed

Pull-up and push-up repetitions are scored on separate published tables. Do not convert one event into the other or compare the repetition counts directly.

Worked examples

PFT Calculator Examples

Illustrative scoring examples using the same published-table model as the calculator.

Example 1

Male, age 22 · pull-ups

Pull-ups10 reps → 57 pts
Plank1:45 → 54 pts
3-mile run24:00 → 63 pts
174 / 300 · 3rd Class

All three events meet their event minimums, so the 174-point total is classified as 3rd Class.

Example 2

Female, age 19 · pull-up minimum

Pull-ups1 rep → 60 pts
Plank3:45 → 100 pts
3-mile run21:00 → 100 pts
260 / 300 · 1st Class

The published female pull-up table assigns 60 points—not 40—at the minimum repetition count.

Example 3

Scoring basisMale, age-normed
Illustrative total205 / 300

Below combat-arms 210 minimum

For a listed combat-arms PMOS in 2026, 205 can fall within the general 2nd Class range yet remain below the separate 210-point combat-arms requirement.

Common mistakes

PFT Scoring Mistakes to Avoid

!

Assuming pull-ups and push-ups use the same scale

They don’t. A calculator (or a Marine) that scores push-up reps against the pull-up table will overstate the score by a wide margin at the top of the range.

!

Treating a high total as automatic passing

Any single event below 40 points fails the whole test, no matter how high the other two events score. Check every event’s minimum, not just the combined total.

!

Using outdated crunches-based scoring

The forearm plank fully replaced abdominal crunches effective January 1, 2023. A chart or calculator still scoring crunches is using a retired standard.

!

Confusing PFT with APFT

APFT refers to the U.S. Army’s old fitness test, since replaced by the AFT. Marines take the PFT, a completely different test with a different scoring scale — the terms aren’t interchangeable.

!

Forgetting the row substitution rule

The 5,000-meter row is authorized for Marines 46 and over or with a medical exemption, in place of the 3-mile run. This calculator doesn’t score the row — check with your unit if that applies to you.

FAQ

PFT Calculator FAQ

What is a PFT score calculator?+
A PFT score calculator converts your pull-ups (or push-ups), plank hold time, and 3-mile run time into the 0-to-100-point score the Marine Corps assigns to each event, then adds them into a total out of 300 and a class — 1st, 2nd, or 3rd.
Is APFT the same as PFT?+
No, though the terms get mixed up often. APFT (Army Physical Fitness Test) was the U.S. Army’s old fitness test, since replaced by the AFT. PFT (Physical Fitness Test) is the U.S. Marine Corps’s test, scored on a completely different scale. If you’re a Marine, PFT is the correct term; APFT does not apply to the Marine Corps.
What is a passing PFT score?+
For the general PFT classification, 150 total points is the minimum for 3rd Class, and every event must meet its published minimum performance. Note that the female pull-up table has a 60-point minimum at its minimum repetition count. Separately, beginning January 1, 2026, Marines in listed combat-arms PMOSs must achieve at least 210 total points using the male, age-normed standard.
Should I choose pull-ups or push-ups on the PFT?+
Pull-ups score up to 100 points; push-ups cap out at 70, which limits your maximum possible PFT total to 270 instead of 300. Because the events use different scoring tables and push-ups are capped at 70 points, compare your actual event results rather than assuming an equivalent repetition count.
Did the Marine Corps replace crunches with the plank?+
Yes. Effective January 1, 2023, the forearm plank became mandatory for all Marines, fully replacing abdominal crunches. The plank is scored on one table that applies to every Marine regardless of age or sex.
Does this PFT calculator score the 5,000-meter row?+
No. The row is authorized in place of the 3-mile run for Marines aged 46 and over or with a medical exemption, but this calculator only scores the run. Marines using the row should confirm their score with their unit.
What changed for combat-arms Marines in 2026?+
Beginning January 1, 2026, Marines in the combat-arms PMOSs listed in MARADMIN 613/25 are assessed using the male, age-normed PFT standard regardless of sex and must achieve at least 210 total points. Non-combat-arms Marines continue under the existing sex- and age-normed standards.
