SAT Score Calculator
This SAT score calculator gives you your anticipated 400–1600 composite by either adding two section scores you already have or estimating your scaled Reading, Writing, and Math scores from raw correct-answer counts.
Also known as: SAT score calculator, SAT calculator, digital SAT score calculator, raw score to scaled score converter, SAT composite score estimator.
200 + (raw ÷ max raw) × 600 = scaled scoreWhy Use an SAT Score Calculator to Estimate Your Composite
The digital SAT doesn’t display the number of questions you answered correctly on your score report. Instead, it transforms each section’s raw score into a scaled score between 200 and 800, then adds Math and Reading and Writing together for a composite between 400 and 1600. Rather than requiring you to manually look up a conversion table, this SAT score calculator applies that same two-step logic instantly.
This matters most shortly after a practice test, when all you have is the raw number of right answers. Instead of speculating about what a 45/54 on Reading & Writing “normally” scores, the calculator uses a consistent 200 + (raw ÷ max raw) × 600 approximation, which lets you compare practice exams on the same 1600-point scale that schools actually use.
It also works in reverse. Switching to “From Section Scores” mode skips the raw-score step and simply adds two 200–800 scores into a composite, whether they come from an official score report, a prep company’s test, or a superscore you’re building manually. This is especially handy for quickly sanity-checking a superscore across several test dates.
How This SAT Score Calculator Works
The SAT doesn’t reveal how many questions you answered correctly. Instead, it transforms the raw count into a scaled score for each section, then combines the two to determine your composite.
The formula
Section Scaled Score ≈ 200 + (Raw Score ÷ Max Raw Score) × 600, rounded to the nearest 10 and capped between 200 and 800.
Two sections, one composite
Math and Reading and Writing scores each range from 200 to 800. Adding them together gives a composite between 400 and 1600.
Why the real curve differs
Because College Board uses a statistical process called equating to maintain score comparability across administrations, the raw-to-scaled conversion shifts meaningfully on each test date — this calculator uses a straight-line approximation instead.
What this doesn’t include
Check your official score report for official percentile rankings, essay scoring (not included in the composite), and adaptive-module scoring subtleties on the digital SAT.
Calculator Mistakes to Avoid
Treating the estimate as official
The College Board’s per-test equating table differs from the straight-line formula used here. Expect your real scaled score to land somewhere within 10 to 30 points of this estimate, not precisely on it.
Mixing up raw and section scores
A raw score is simply the number of right answers (out of 54 or 44), while a section score is already on the 200–800 scale. Because of that, entering a section score into “From Raw Score” mode (or vice versa) produces a meaningless result.
Forgetting the digital SAT’s question counts
The digital SAT has 54 Reading and Writing questions and 44 Math questions. Since the older paper SAT used a different split, raw results from paper practice exams won’t translate well onto this calculator.
Assuming raw score is linear on the real test
Because the digital SAT is adaptive, two students with identical raw scores may receive somewhat different scaled scores depending on which second-module difficulty they were assigned. This calculator doesn’t account for that adaptive effect.
